Neil Atwell of Trinidad was the first child to benefit from the resources of CFTT. His sight was failing fast and his family had no financial resources to get him the surgery that he needed to repair his eyesight. CFTT donated two thousand US dollars for Neil’s eye surgery which was performed in Trinidad. His family was grateful for our assistance.
Tareek Scott was the next child that CFTT assisted financially. He required life-saving heart surgery which was performed at Schneider’s Children Hospital in Hyde Park, New York. The operation was successful and he returned to Trinidad to go back to school. When asked what he wanted to do when he graduated from high school, he said “ I want to be a doctor ”.
Simone Ragonath of Piarco, Trinidad was born with several birth defects; she had no anal passage, and she also had a hole in her heart. CFTT and The Gift of Life Foundation financed the medical procedure, and she underwent surgery to create her anal passageway at Schneider’s Children Hospital in Hyde Park, New York where she also underwent open-heart surgery to repair the hole in her heart. The surgery was a success and now she is back home in Trinidad.
Kareem Aimes was diagnosed with Conjunctival Auto Transplant and traveled from Trinidad with his mother Lorraine for surgery. They stayed at The Ronald Mc Donald House in Los Angeles. The Conjunctival Auto Transplant Surgery was performed on his blind left eye at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital in Los Angeles by Dr. Jonathan Song. Both surgeon and the hospital volunteered their services. Other expenses were paid by CFTT with some assistance from the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
Adam Samaroo of Chaguanas, Trinidad was found to have a hole in his heart at the age of three months by his doctor. He was under doctor’s care, on medication and taking less than half his allowed formula. When Adam was eight months old, Dr. Alexander of Mt Hope Hospital in Trinidad referred him to Jacksonville Hospital in Miami for surgery to correct the ventricular septal defect, (a hole in his heart). CFTT pledged $3,000 to assist in helping Adam live a normal life.
Shamika Ali was in need of Corneal Transplant Surgery on her left eye and CFTT provided monetary assistance to pay for her surgery. The surgery was performed in Trinidad. We have received information that the surgery was a success and her vision is currently healing.
